It seems that pitch-matching issues are not just about the ear. I believe they also have to do with repiratory issues and physical tension, and possibly even emotional trauma.
At least, that’s what seems to be happening...
My approach, as far as I can tell, is completely different than anything else I’ve read or seen. Maybe I’m wrong on this, please let me know.
My theory is that respiratory-muscular-fascial tension is affecting the vocal mechanism, basular membrane, hair bundles and nerve impulses to such an extent that one can’t hear properly. Or can’t hear outside of their (recognizable) speaking range. Therefore the attempt to go outside of that safety zone seems like a pitch issue. But it isn’t. It doesn’t seem to be about pitch or hearing at all. It’s about a wall of physical tension that inhibits the brain-ear-laryngeal triad.
So fabulous IG hive-mind, anyone out there have an understanding why restorative yoga, chest/traps/neck/jaw myofascial release, breath therapy, thoracic/pelvic diaphragmatic strengthening exercises and upper RA release (abdominal massage) can fix even the worst pitch-matching issues in two or three lessons?
I figured this out in a vacuum over a dozen years ago. I know it works because I’ve had success 100% of the time, probably in just over two dozen cases.
But I don’t truly understand WHY it works.
What I can say with certainty is every single person is with pitch-matching issues present with considerable platysma, SCM, upper abdominal tension and costal breathing. This can’t be a coincidence.
