Awareness predates the Nervous System, which predates Thought, which predates Belief. ❤️
First we are aware of ourselves. We then become aware of our nervous system activating in relation to external stimuli. What follows is a thought regarding the activation (feelings) and in a flash, we convince ourselves that those thoughts mean something, and that they are “TRUTH”.
This is where all our difficulties begin.
The separateness, comparisons, judgement, hurt, trauma, sadness, and anger that lead to so many health issues. And, having decided that “we are our thoughts”, these decisions turn into beliefs, becoming a deep-seated part of who we are.
What if we pull the parking brake and pull a donut on our belief systems? What if, instead of reacting primarily to our Howling Wolf, we sit quietly, and passively listen to our Whispering Wolf?
Personally, I find my monkey-mind’s unending torrent of ideas extremely alluring... and yet I know I am drowning in them: I do not like the constant feeling that I am “not in the driver’s seat”.
Activities such as Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi, Dance, Acting, Drawing, Writing and Singing are so important for our health and well-being.
As we immerse ourselves in our practice (in it, in the zone, in flow) we are noticing instead of thinking.
Through openness, exploration and playful curiosity little twinkling insights appear regarding our chosen field, and by extension, ourselves, and by further extension, humanity and the nature of our existence. A sense of peace follows.
And, noticing is what brings us back to “The First”... Awareness. We begin to hear a faint voice - a distant melody re-minding us of Who We Are beneath the din of our thoughts and the weight of our beliefs.
